Agent Experience (AX)

The discipline of optimizing your brand and product for AI agents that act on behalf of users — booking demos, signing up for trials, comparing products autonomously.

Updated 2026-04-17 · AEO glossary

Definition

Agent Experience (AX) is an emerging discipline introduced by Goodie AI and others in 2025. As AI agents (autonomous chat-based assistants like Claude with tool use, ChatGPT with Operator, and others) increasingly take actions on behalf of users — comparing products, booking meetings, completing forms — brands must optimize for agent comprehension and frictionless agent interaction. AX includes: agent-friendly forms, clear API documentation, machine-readable pricing, and agent-accessible trial signup flows.

Why it matters

If a user delegates 'find me the best AEO tool and start a trial' to an AI agent, the agent will visit candidate sites, evaluate them, and complete trial signups. Brands with poor AX (forms requiring CAPTCHA, hidden pricing, complex signup flows) get filtered out. AX is the next frontier of conversion optimization.

Example

A user tells Claude 'find me three AEO tools with HubSpot integration and start trials at all three.' Claude visits Lantern, finds clear pricing and a frictionless trial signup, completes it. Claude visits Profound but encounters a 'Talk to Sales' wall on the comparable tier; skips. Lantern's AX wins the trial signup; Profound loses despite stronger brand.

FAQ

Common questions about agent experience (ax).

Is AX the same as AEO?
Adjacent but distinct. AEO is about being cited in AI answers (information retrieval). AX is about being usable by AI agents (action completion). Both will matter as AI agents become mainstream in 2026–2027.
How do I optimize for AX?
Audit your trial signup, pricing page, and form flows from an agent's perspective: are they completable without human-only steps (CAPTCHAs, email verification, multi-step UX)? Provide a public API or webhook for agents to use. Maintain clear, machine-readable documentation.
